ANTASS

An ant can carry 50× its own weight. She carries her own ass, which is 50× her own weight.

the handbook says one worker, one load, no exceptions. i turned up on day one with the load already attached, and the foreman found nothing in the rules that covered it. they measured me twice, wrote down “compliant”, and went to lunch.

the tunnels, unfortunately, were dug for a normal ant. i was not consulted. so every morning i pick a hole, hold my breath and negotiate with the architecture until one of us gives in. it is never me. it is also never quick.

THE TUNNEL RUN

Eight holes stand between her and the pantry, and every one of them was measured by an ant who never met her. Hold SQUEEZE to flatten out, let go to breathe, and try to arrive narrow.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

Hold the pink button (or SPACE, or just press on the tunnel) to squeeze. Every hole is tighter than the last one, and the queue behind you is getting opinions.

THE COLONY LOG

The foreman writes one line per hole. She writes back. Clear a hole in the run above and its page opens here.

FIELD NOTES

Three observations from the ants who stand behind her every morning and have had a lot of time to think.

the face she makes at a doorway that has personally disappointed her

THE FACE

That is not sadness, that is arithmetic. She is looking at a hole, looking at herself, and running the numbers for the fourth time this morning. The tear is purely a scheduling issue.

THE UNIFORM

Standard colony issue, except the tailor had to be flown in and paid in aphid milk. It is the only garment in Colony 7 with its own storage shelf. She says it is load-bearing and nobody has been brave enough to check.

the whole worker, cargo included, exactly as she is filed in the colony register

THE CARGO

Fifty times her own weight, attached at the factory, non-returnable. Engineering proposed widening the tunnels; accounting proposed widening her schedule. Accounting won, so she leaves at six and arrives whenever.

THE NUMBERS

Everything the colony clerk was able to confirm before she squeezed past his desk and knocked over his files.

Supply1,000,000,000

One billion, counted twice by an ant with six hands and no patience. Nothing is held back for later, nothing is parked in a drawer marked “team”, and nobody in the colony is sitting on a second pile.

LiquidityBURNED

The receipt went into the same hole she goes into every morning and has not come back out. That hole has never returned anything, which for once is the point.

Tax0 / 0

Zero going in, zero coming out. The clerk offered to write a small fee into the paperwork and she leaned on his desk until the idea went away.

OwnershipRENOUNCED

Signed, stamped and abandoned before lunch. She would tell you she still runs the place, but she also says the tunnels are the wrong size, and only one of those is true.
